- Public Universities: Generally prefer < 5 backlogs. Some strictly require a "Zero Backlog Certificate."
- Private Universities: More flexible, sometimes accepting 10-15 backlogs with strong work experience or high GRE scores.
ECTS is the European credit system. A standard German Bachelor's is 180 or 210 ECTS.

- Uni-assist: A central portal that handles applications for ~180 German universities. You pay €75 for the first application and €30 for each additional one.
- VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation): A "preliminary review" document. You apply for this via Uni-assist, and once issued, you submit it directly to universities that don't use Uni-assist for full processing (e.g., TUM, LMU).
